Hello there. My name is Greg Rentschler and I am a freelance web developer located in the Chicago area. Welcome to my portfolio site.
Are you looking for a web designer? I create professional, clear, and effective web sites for businesses and individuals.
I design and develop web sites with...
- Standards compliant, handwritten, valid xHTML and CSS code.
- Javascript (JS) and JS Libraries (jQuery and MooTools) for slick "Web 2.0" interfaces.
- PHP and mySQL for dynamic, database driven web sites.
- Content Management Systems (CMS) which allow YOU to manage/edit your own site.
I design and develop web sites for...
- Small Businesses.
- Individuals - Wedding sites, Family sites, Blogs, Event sites, etc...
- Associations, Organizations, and Non-Profits.
- Schools and Churches.
See what I can do for you by taking a look at my latest work. I am currently available for freelance projects - contact me today and we can discuss the requirements of your project.
I specialize in web design and development for small businesses and individuals.
I am a one person freelance shop with a day job, so I will not take on huge web projects that are better suited for large agencies. I do excel in creating professional, clear, effective web sites at affordable prices for small businesses and individuals:
- Web site design and development. I can take your design and turn it into code, or I can create a design for you using standards complaint, Search Engine Optimized (SEO), valid xHTML/CSS coding.
- Content Management System (CMS) themes and templates. I can also customize your current CMS theme or plugins/extensions.
- CMS integration or conversion. Using a CMS allows YOU to manage and edit your website.
Many individuals know that they need a website, but do not know anything about the technology. With my consultation, I can help you determine what you need from your website and how to get started.
If you envision your website to be updated often, then I would recommend building your web site on top of a CMS (Content Management System). This will give you the power to update your site easily yourself. Below are links to my favorite CMS systems that I think are the best. All of these are open source software, which means they are free to use and modify as needed.
If your site will be updated often with photos, then ZenPhoto is the CMS of choice. Along with the ZenPage plugin, this is by far my favorite CMS. As the creators say: Zenphoto is a gallery CMS that just makes sense and doesn't try to do everything and your dishes. We hope you agree with our philosophy: simpler is better.
Joomla is great for business sites that need a lot of extensibility. There is a huge community of developers that create commercial or free extensions that can take your website to the next level.
If you will be blogging or continuously adding new content to your website, I recommend Wordpress. Wordpress has grown to be the largest self-hosted blogging tool in the world, used on millions of sites and seen by tens of millions of people every day.

Missus PMS for Joomla 1.5x
Missus PMS (Private Messaging System) was first developed back in the Mambo days before Joomla. It then became available for Joomla 1.0.x, but then development ceased shortly after. Here, I have taken the original code and modified it to work with Joomla version 1.5.x, and also changed the extension to fit my needs for a certain project. The extension allows registered users to send messages back and forth to each other and pre-defined groups. This extension is provided as is.
Screenshots of the ZenPhoto themes can be found in my portfolio section.
